Tour Overview

This is an amazing primate holiday that takes you Rwanda’s most visited national parks and these Volcanoes National Park which is home to mountain gorillas and golden monkeys and Nyungwe Forest Park a home to chimpanzees, birds, monkeys and baboons. You will also do a city tour where you visit Genocide memorial center, you will also visit different local markets.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Upon arrival, our driver guide will pick you from the Airport/hotel, take you through a briefing about this 5 days Rwanda primate holiday, he will later transfer you to Nyungwe national park which is about 4-hours’ drive from Kigali. Arrive at the park in time for lunch, proceed to your lodge, check in, have lunch, relax entire afternoon and enjoy a cool night as you listen to melodies of the birds in forests.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk

Arise in the morning, enjoy a scrumptious breakfast, meet your driver guide and transfer to the park headquarters for briefing about the dos and don’ts of trekking chimpanzees. You will be assigned a chimpanzee family to track, with a ranger guide who is knowledgeable about the forest. After meeting these primates, spend an hour with them as you see how they behave, how they eat, take pictures and videos, later you will return to the lodge for lodge for lunch, relax a bit and in the evening, you will go for a canopy walk.

This is the only place in East Africa where you can rub shoulders with the primates in the skies, you will take as many pictures as you can, then retire to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Check out and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

On this day, wake up on a lazy breakfast, check out of the lodge and transfer to Volcanoes National Park where you will be meeting mountain gorillas. Drive to another beautiful lush thick forest, arrive in the park in time for lunch, check in at the lodge, have lunch and relax at the lodge as you admire the surrounding plantations and Virunga mountains.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking and Ibyiwacu cultural tour

This is another eventful day for you to encounter the gentle giant gorillas in their natural environment. After a mouthwatering breakfast, you will be transferred to the park headquarters for briefing about gorilla trekking, it is at this time that you will be assigned to a gorilla family to track, later head to the thick forests with a ranger guide who will help you to locate the gorillas.

After gorilla trekking, return to the lodge, enjoy lunch and then in the evening you will visit Iby’iwachu Cultural Center. This is also known as the Gorilla Guardians Village. You will enjoy lots of entertainment presented by different cultures; for example, there are Batwa and Rwandan cultures, the dances and songs will leave you with a big smile. They also have large craft shops where you can purchase souvenirs. After this engagement, retire to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Check out and departure

Wake up on a lazy breakfast, check out of your lodge and transfer back to Kigali which is about 3 hours’ drive. Arrive in Kigali city in the afternoon, first head to the restaurant for lunch and later go to Kigali genocide museum.

Also visit different markets and artisans, before a transfer to the airport or hotel depending on your flight time. This will mark the end of your 5 days Rwanda Primate Holiday.
