Overview
Embark on this memorable 7 Days Rwanda chimps in Nyungwe National Park and lowland gorillas in Kahuzi-Biega National Park in DR Congo safari where you get a chance to visit these unique primates. Another great adventure will be a canopy walk in Nyungwe National Park and this is where the ropes are suspended into the air at a height of 90m and 160m long, giving you a chance to have a panoramic view of the surroundings.
This means that the tour will take you to two countries with a chance to visit famous attractions in Kigali during the city tour such as the Kimironko market, Kigali memorial grounds, art and craft centres, the former presidential palace museum and others.
Detailed Itinerary
Day1. Arrive and Kigali city tour
On your arrival, the driver guide will pick you up from the airport (Kigali International Airport) and head to Kigali city to tour some of the notable attractions like the Kimironko market, art and gallery centres, Kigali genocide memorial centre and more. The day will end by checking in the hotel booked.
Day2. Head to Nyungwe National Park from Kigali
The driver guide will take you to Nyungwe National Park after breakfast and the route will be through great rolling hills. Have a chance to visit the former presidential palace a historical and political place where the former president’s plane was crushed on this point. Proceed to Nyungwe National Park a home to 13 primates with the chimpanzees becoming the main attraction in this park. Arrive and head to the lodge.
Day3. Chimpanzee tracking
Wake up and enjoy breakfast which will be followed by a short drive to the park offices. Here, attend a briefing that covers different aspects like crosschecking the trekking permits, knowing rules and regulations such as not making noise in the forest, always keeping a required distance, not using a flashlight camera, not mimicking and more.
The search will begin while meeting other attractions like red colobus monkeys, L’Hoest monkeys, vervet monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, olive baboons and more. Meeting a community of chimps will offer you a chance to spend an hour in their presence learning the behaviours, taking photos and recording videos. You need to know that the overall experience can last for about 6 hours in the forest since there is a lot to explore and also you can’t predict the exact location of these beautiful human close relatives. Head back to the lodge for a leisurely evening.
Day4. Canopy walk and head back to Kigali
Take a canopy walk where you will encounter an aerial view of the forest. This experience can last for about 3 hours with a great moment of spotting primates such as red-tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys, L’Hoest monkeys, red colobus monkeys and many more others. On top of the primates, spot different birds while others will be making calls in the air. The canopy walk is a bridge-like structure where made from ropes and wood suspended in the air on top of the trees. After the experience, head to the lodge and check out heading back to Kigali for another night.
Day5. Head to Kahuzi-Biega National Park in DR Congo
Breakfast will be served and this will be followed by a drive to Kahuzi-Biega National Park in DR Congo. This park is home to rare Eastern Lowland gorillas and other mammals plus different bird species. On the way, cross the border where the driver guide will assist you to clear your documents like travel visa, passport, yellow card and more. Arrive and head to the lodge.
Day6. Lowland gorilla trekking
Take part in this amazing adventure where you encounter the lowland gorilla through a trekking adventure. The day will begin with a briefing that will not be so different from that of chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe National Park.
The experience will begin under the guidance of the park rangers and Porters. The experience lasted for about 7 hours in the jungle including an hour in the presence of this beautiful creature. Expect to meet vervet monkeys, olive baboons, red colobus monkeys and many more others. Head back to the lodge for your dinner and this will create everlasting memories.
Day7. Head back to Kigali and departure flight
Have breakfast which will be followed by a transfer to Kigali to board a departure flight back home and this will be the end of the tour.
