Overview
Taking part in this Uganda-Rwanda safari is rewarding since you encounter different attractions including the big five animals, big cats, and unique primates like chimpanzees, gorillas and golden monkeys. The safari also includes visiting communities like Isunga to explore homemade coffee and crater lakes, Hiking to the top of falls, stopping at the Uganda equator at Kikorongo, and tracking the tree-climbing lions in Ishasha sector. Have a short city tour in Kigali where you get a chance to explore the beautiful Inema art gallery, Kigali genocide memorial grounds, Kimironko market and more.
Detailed Itinerary
Day1. Kampala to Murchison Falls NP
Meet and greet the driver guide of our company which will be followed by a transfer to Murchison Falls National Park. The journey will take about 7 hours drive and this is a rewarding experience as you enjoy the beautiful scenery and have a stopover at one of the roadside markets to buy some fresh fruits such as mangoes, passion fruits and many more. Head to the lodge booked for your dinner and night stay.
Day2. Game drive and boat cruise
Have a morning game drive where you encounter different wildlife including mammals and birds such as Ibis, abbisynian ground hornbill, lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, warthogs, bushbucks, hartebeests and more. The game drive is amazing and rewarding since enjoy the endless plains of this great national park.
Have lunch break which will be followed by a great adventure on Albert Nile this will be a boat cruise giving a better view of Murchison Falls from the bottom and again, have a spot of different animals like hippos, crocodiles, elephants, warthogs and more. There will be an option of hiking to the top of the falls where you get a chance to enjoy the world’s most powerful waterfalls.
Day3. Head to Kibale National Park and visit the Isunga Cultural Community Association
Leave for Kibale National Park after a forest national park in western Uganda. This park is famous for homing the 13 primates with the chimpanzees becoming the main attraction. The park is also home to other large mammals, and unique bird species like blue Turacos, green-breasted pita and more.
Arrive and visit Isunga Cultural Community Association/tours to take part in any activity of your choice, for the love of coffee, process a homemade coffee or visit crater lakes around the village. Head to the lodge booked for your dinner.
Day4. Chimpanzee tracking and head to Queen Elizabeth National Park
Breakfast will be served followed by a short drive to the park offices for a briefing which is all about knowing the chimpanzee behaviours, knowing rules and regulations, crosschecking the trekking permits, knowing materials needed and many more others. The search will begin with the help of the park guide and park escorts while spotting different bird species, plants and more. Spending an hour with the chimps creates everlasting memories while capturing photos and videos. Though, the overall experience can last for about 5 hours in the jungle.
After the experience, head to the lodge for lunch with your trekking certificate. The day will end when you are in Queen Elizabeth National Park a journey starting immediately after lunch passing through the Crater lakes of Kasenda Ndali with a view of the twin Lakes (Lake Kifuruka and Lake Nyinambuga).
Day5. Game drive and boat cruise
Take a morning game drive in the savannahs of the park with plenty to spot including lions, elephants, buffalos, warthogs, spotted hyenas, leopards and many more. The game drive normally targets areas of Kasenyi plains and this will last for about 2 to 3 hours. After lunch, take a launch trip on the Kazinga channel where you expect to spot animals like crocodiles, hippos, isolated buffalos, elephants and many more. Here you will also spot birds like pelicans, Egrets, hamerkops, fish eagles, kingfishers and many more others. Head back to the lodge for your dinner.
Day6. Head to Bwindi National Park through the Ishasha sector
Head to the impenetrable national park of Bwindi after breakfast with an en-route drive in the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Here have a chance to track the rare tree-climbing lions together with different antelopes. Proceed to the Bwindi a home of endangered mountain gorillas with other wild animals. The journey will take about 6 hours drive. Arrive and head to the lodge booked for your dinner and overnight stay.
Day7. Gorilla trekking and cross to Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda
The adventure begins with breakfast and then heads to the park offices for a briefing which will not be different from that of Kibale National Park. Head into the forest to begin the search for these beautiful primates. Spend an hour while following the gorilla family trekked and this will create everlasting memories.
The members of the family can be playing, searching for food, breastfeeding and any more others. After the adventure, cross to Rwanda and head to Volcanoes National Park National Park a home to both endangered mountain gorillas and the rare golden monkeys. The journey can take about 6 hours drive and on arrival, check in the accommodation for leisure.
Day8. Golden monkey trekking and Head to Akegera National Park
Wake up and have breakfast which will be followed by a briefing at the park headquarters. The park ranger will emphasise using flashlight cameras since these primates tend to draw closer. Immediately, the search will begin under the leadership of the park ranger. There is a lot to see among them the olive baboons, red-tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys and many more others. Trekking these primates is a rewarding adventure since the golden monkeys are so playful while jumping from one tree to another.
Afterwards, head to Akagera National Park the only savannah national park in Rwanda homing the big five and over 300 bird species including the rare shoebill stork. Arrive and head to the lodge for your accommodations.
Day9. Hot air ballooning and optional activity
Take part in a hot air ballooning tour a chance to enjoy the wild in panoramic view. There is a lot to explore such as wildlife, endless scenery, plants and many more others. The adventure ends with a glass of champagne or juice in case you don’t take alcoholic drinks. Remember that you have a chance to see elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, rhinos, zebras, warthogs, giraffes and many more others. Have an optional activity such as a game drive or boat cruise on Lake Ihema.
Day10. Head back to Kigali and departure
Head to Kigali after a leisurely breakfast. Depending on your scheduled flight, have a chance to visit some of the city attractions like the Inema art gallery, Kimironko market, Kigali genocide memorial ground and more. Be dropped at the airport and this marks the end of the safari.
